GlobeMed at Duke

GlobeMed is a forum where dreamers and doers come together and become a force for positive social change. A nation-wide network of 56 chapters, GlobeMed chapters partner with grassroots organizations around the world to empower communities in their fight to eradicate health disparities. At Duke, we challenge our members to develop and implement solutions to the problems we face with our partner organizations. Currently, we are partnered domestically with the Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC). We primarily share our time, as well as technical expertise, to support the women seeking refuge at the shelter, ranging from financial and professional development skills training to organization tasks. We are also partnered internationally with the Shirati Health, Education and Development Foundation (SHED) in Tanzania. GlobeMed at Duke and SHED develop projects throughout the school year, such as a water micro-finance project and a mass schistosomiasis treatment campaign, that GlobeMed’s grassroots on-site (GROW) interns implement during the summers.
