The existing gender disparities in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields underscore the need for outreach programs to help engage young women in such areas. FEMMES (Females Excelling More in Math, Engineering and Science) is a student-led organization at Duke University that hosts educational outreach programs related to math, science, and engineering for 4th-6th grade girls in Durham. We are always looking for female student volunteers to help out in our multitude of programs. We currently organize after-school programs in five Durham elementary schools, a Saturday program that operates on Duke campus, a week-long summer program, an annual one-day Capstone event, and a recently launched mentorship program, called FEMMES Connect, between Durham girls and Duke’s undergraduate students. The programs cater to the undergraduates’ busy schedules by offering volunteer opportunities at various times throughout the week! Ready to make a difference? Then, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to invite you into our FEMMES family!
