Duke Helping Hands for Alzheimers and other Neurological Disorders (DukeHAND) aims to fundraise and serve for the local elderly population that suffers from neurological diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Dementia. The club also aims to provide members with the real-world experience of palliative care through the nonprofit A Helping Hand of North Carolina (AHH). We will help train members each semester with AHH’s resources to be able to volunteer consistently or pursue internships with the nonprofit to work in nursing homes and adult day cares of the Durham community. Finally, we intend to start a conversation about the current research for a cure, the existing attitudes of death and dying, and the treatment of seniors and those with neurological disorders.
