Duke Students for Humane Borders

Duke Students for Humane Borders is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of immigration issues and promoting immigrant rights both on Duke’s campus and in Durham. We advocate a view of immigration that emphasizes individual immigrants’ needs and obstacles during their transborder journeys. In particular, we focus on the trials faced by the thousands of undocumented Latino/a migrants who annually cross the US-Mexico border. Through student interviews, photograph displays, and speaker events, we aim to promote discussion about institutions and policies which affect these migrants. We also partner with related organizations for other events, such as moral marches, mentorship programs, constitutional rights workshops, and clinics increasing accessibility to education and legal help. Duke Students for Humane Borders is an organization committed to raising awareness on Duke’s campus and in the Durham community about the humanitarian issues implicated in human migrations across national borders.
